I’m Officially Orange
brinkleyr@gmail.com | November 8, 2013
It’s been a great week being at ExactTarget’s home office and I’m more than happy to say I’m Officially Orange. Trust me, I even have a button to prove it. While it was a little rough just getting to Indianapolis last Sunday…If I told you a story that involved a doper loosing his cocaine bag, a logistically challenged airplane mechanic, a crew with 30 seconds to spare before replacement, and a limo driver you wouldn’t believe me…anyway, it was tough getting here but well worth it once I arrived.
As my NEO cohorts gathered in the lobby it was obvious that ExactTarget was hiring not only the best of the best, but also eagerly bringing in highly experienced people like myself. Once at the ETAcademy we ended up spending 4 days in New Employ Orientation (NEO).
“4 DAYS of NEO!!!! you say, are you kidding?”
Nope and by all means I have to say the best 4 days of NEO I’ve ever had. The first day we learned all about “Being Orange”. What it means and how we’re already Orange otherwise we wouldn’t be in this class. Day 2 we had the dickens scared out of us by the VP engineer. So much so that when one of our fellow cohorts send an innocent email that half the class turned his email into security. That hair raising experience was followed up with a laptop hand out. I’m now the proud owner of a 15″ Mac Book Pro with retina display…COME TO PAPPA!!! The afternoon we settled into the PR paper work.
Now we started the meat of the week with each and every employee having to go through product training. 2 1/4 days of training on core product set. At the end we played a a game of family feud. Sorry Brian, but Thomas’ answer was incorrect and I still stand by my statement that while functionally you should be able to add a folder you can’t on certain platform….Come on Man!!!!
One of the exercises was to create a email based on a variety of requirements and test it out. I’ve attached my test email below, but the real kicker is that each and every NEO participant must fill out a new employee bio with the email tool and send it out to everyone at ET. Pretty cool NEO training if you ask me.
With NEO over on Friday I got to spend the day with my neo-new manager Joe Wachs and team. Change is constant at ET and Joe became my manager at ET on Monday so I’m calling him my neo-new manager. Everything looks like a great fit. Very early on in the day Joe said he noticed I did podcasting…Well let’s just says there’s a new podcast coming from Binky’s Cave in the near future.
Tonight I’m headed home on the plane, but keep listening….I’ll have more to report next week.
Binky
